Winter over so wedding season is approaching fast! Last weekend I did a couple of ‘landmark birthday’ magic events, the first at Park Farm Hotel in Heathersett, near Norwich was a more intimate booking, for about 18 people. This is always a really nice kind of magic to perform, where people can have a mix of close up table magic and also some magic effects that can be done for the whole group at the same time for 20/30 mins or so. That gives me a really pleasant opportunity to do bit magic / mentalism pieces that wouldn’t normally form part of a close up set. I was straight off then to north Norfolk for a larger event at the Pheasant Hotel near Kelling, back to the more frequent kind of event entertaining around tables at a party for some people that I have been booked with previously. I’ve found more and more in the last couple of years that people hire a magician for landmark events like 40th, 50th, 60th and 70th birthdays, a good excuse to get the whole lot of family and friends together where a close up magician can add some excellent memories for people.
As soon as May come around the weddings start rolling in thick and fast as normal across Norfolk and Suffolk. I met a couple who I’m booked for next year last weekend to discuss where best to place magic in the day. I always say that about 75% of the time people prefer a close up magician in the afternoon drinks reception, after the ceremony and before food. This is a great time for a wedding magician to move around guests, mix people together and inject some fun and energy into the day. The other common time is to bridge the gap between day and evening part of the day, usually around tables and also as evening guests arrive. I think once the ‘party’ starts and the music / band is playing, something like magic as entertainment has less of an impact. I’ve done many later evening wedding bookings which have been great due to the layout of the venue and also where the choice has not been for a loud party, but shouting over a band or disco is always hard work!
If you’re looking for a magician for your wedding or event somewhere in Norfolk or Suffolk, have a think about where in the day it would suit you best, or simply give me a call to chat through what might work best for you!
